Blueberry and Spinach Smoothie

I love, love, love green healthy smoothies, any combination. Once there is a huge handful of greens in there I will happily have one every single morning. When it comes to making smoothies I always go by the rule that it has to contain mostly vegetables and is sweetened with only a little fruit. This way it is healthy and not packed full of sugar. Yes, even fruit becomes a free-sugar when blended up so it is really good to be mindful about the amount of fruit we are eating.

This recipe is packed full of spinach leaves and uses only 1/2 a banana and 1/2 a cup of blueberries. For us that is all the sweetness we need and let me tell you it is just beyond deeeeelicious! This smoothie recipe also makes yummy healthy smoothie ice pops too so perfect for teething babies. It takes less than 5 minutes to make and you will have really nourishing teething pops on hand always!

This recipe is simple to make, and is such a healthy way to start the day or even as a snack for you and your baby. Here’s why I chose the following ingredients:

Spinach. My absolutely favourite veggie of all time, E.V.E.R. Spinach is packed full of vitamins, is a great source of fibre and is loaded with nutrients including iron. Plus when blended up with just a little banana the kids barely taste it

Blueberries. Little powerhouses that are packed full of antioxidants

Banana. Great for thickening up your smoothie and gives you a good dose of potassium too.

Spinach. This is where the POWER comes in. Spinach is full of vitamins and nutrients, and includes great fiber. Blend away – you won’t notice the taste at all!

Milk. I used almond milk in this recipe and it is just so creamy and delicious, you can also use any milk of your choice too.

Extras – If you need extra protein you can use a scoop of your favourite protein powder or boost with maca powder for extra calcium, the choice is yours!

This recipe is part of my healthy food series with Dunnes Stores and all of the ingredients are available in-store! The spinach in particular is part of the Dunnes Stores Everyday Savers range and is only €1! I bought 10 boxes, brought it home, washed it and put into little freezer bags so that it would keep. This is an ideal way to store fruit and veggies and is great for your smoothies too!

I can’t wait to hear what you think of this smoothie and if you make it please share the recipe on Instagram and tag #babyledfeeding so I can see your creations!

Happy drinking,

Aileen xoxo
